I read an interesting article this morning by Dr. Joseph Mercola that talks about why he doesn’t recommend ear candling. In the ear candling article, he said some are making claims that this process can remove candida from the body.
While candida can and does exist throughout the body, it’s not always dangerous. If you’ve got an overgrowth of candida albicans, this is where problems can happen. We’ve all got good bacteria and bad bacteria in our bodies and the good guys can keep the bad guys at bay. When we eat poorly or take antibiotics (that kill both the good and the bad flora in our bodies), this is when we can experience candida fungal infections of the skin, the genitals, the mouth and systemic candida as well.
Is ear candling effective at candida fighting? Experts say that the process of candling removes wax and bacteria and yeast from the ear drums. This is a controversial subject.
How else can you clean your ears?
There’s an old saying that states you should never insert anything smaller than your elbow into your ear. Many people use cotton swabs and risk pushing wax further into their ears as well as rupturing their eardrum. Many doctors suggest putting a few drops of mineral oil in the ear to loosen wax which will then come out on its own. Others suggest a few drops of hydrogen peroxide which will bubble and remove bacteria and wax. In fact, H202 in the ears could also help cure the common cold.
More candida information can be found here.

(EDIT: Thanks to those who wrote and identified that I misspoke and identified Candida as a bacteria. Candida is a fungus, not a bacteria.)

Dr. Jonathan Wright has a good article about treating candidiasis naturally, without ear candling…
